ERP: Social and Sophisticated, can you have both?

Despite the fact that ERP is a well-established tool in many organisations and has been around for several years, there is discussion around whether it can adapt to the new trends of the modern IT world.

Can you seamlessly incorporate social media with your ERP solution, and ensure that your day to day operations remain as functional as before?

Some ERP users are wary of this and are adopting an “if it isn’t broken, why fix it” attitude, their reason for this is if ERP is deemed to be extremely important in the day-to-day running of an organisation and successful operations, why would you change it?

So how can ERP change to keep up with the developments of Social Media trends that are taking over our day-to-day working operations? Despite the fact that Social Media tools were originally for personal use, it is likely that they will continue to become more and more prevalent as an enterprise tool.

It is as if ERP needs a bit of an image overhaul as more and more companies need to consider an integrated approach. It isn’t impossible to manage the integration of social and ERP but it just needs a bit of thought and planning, taking the following elements into consideration:

  • Easy Collaboration for all users throughout the organisation
  • Choice of access for users, they need to be able to manage from any place, at any time and on any device
  • Enablement for users so that they understand the relevant changes in the system

In summary, it is important that there is seamless collaboration and choice of access for users as well as good enablement. Social ERP can therefore be introduced in an easy way, where people can understand how to deduce information from the solution whilst accessing when and where they need it.
